Heart of the Forest
Working with many local stakeholders, the Trust has led the development of a Vision and Action Plan for the 10,000 acres at the heart of The National Forest sitting centrally between Swadlincote, Ashby and Measham.
Having embarked on the physical transformation of an area of substantial dereliction to that of significant woodland coverage – which includes the 1000-acre ‘Heart of the Forest’ woodland park and CONKERS – the challenge now is to unlock the economic potential created by this new woodland canvas. The aspiration for the area is that it becomes a major visitor destination and strategic green infrastructure set within a diverse forest economy.
